Alpha in Prisons

Alpha runs in 800 prisons around the world. It’s an incredible opportunity to engage with and communicate the gospel to a group of people who need it the most.

Harbour have been so lucky to have been able to go into HMP Ford for the last two years and host Sunday evening services there, so when asked if we would like to host their next Alpha course, we leaped at the chance!

At the end of May 2019, a group of volunteers headed into the prison chapel to launch Alpha with an open mic night, which was attended by roughly 70 men (which is over 10% of the prison population!). It was a night that was filled with fun, music and a lot of laughter and a great chance for us to invite the men to attend Alpha the following week – and boy did they!

We had about 35 men turn up to week one of Alpha, and we’ve just passed week five. It is such a privilege to be able to visit the prison taking the gospel with us and sharing hope, freedom and love with the men inside.

The Prison Ministry is always growing and being able to make meaningful connections with those inside at HMP Ford is such a joy. Not only is it fun to host discussions about faith and the meaning of life, but we as a team truly believe that God is bringing a revival in the prisons in the UK, and it’s a gift to be part of that!

If you’d like to know more about how to get involved, or what’s going on, please email lauren@harbourchurchportsmouth or head to the welcome wall on a Sunday!
