Having 'time for you' can be precious for so many different reasons - time to relax, time to pamper yourself, time to just 'be' away from the worries or strains of everyday life. However, finding time like this can be really difficult if you are a single parent, live in shared accommodation or perhaps have had to access crisis support such as a Domestic Violence refuge or refugee support.
A group of women from Harbour Church in Portsmouth have been working together to provide a space within the city that can be that opportunity to take 'time for you.’ It is for women of all ages and backgrounds whose circumstances mean that it can be rare for them to feel looked after and pampered.
We transform a space within the city centre department store building that is home to Harbour Church to create a cosy area that feels welcoming and safe. Our cafe bar offers a delicious range of hot drinks and a filling breakfast as well as plenty of home baked sweet treats. For those that wanted a little pamper, we have gel nail manicures, facials and footspas. There is also space to just come and enjoy the sofas, flick through a magazine and chat to a friendly face.
Every lady that visits one of our pamper mornings leaves with a gift bag containing further treats including toiletries and beauty items, as well as some food essentials. A little gesture to show that they are valued and loved as well as providing them a few extras for the week ahead. We believe this project will alleviate poverty, isolation, depression and loneliness among the poorest families in Portsmouth. We are building strong local partnerships to reach these women and children, and we offer a wide variety of appropriate follow up courses and support that will lead to long-term change for these families.
