I’ve been coming to Harbour Church for about a year now, and I started doing the Leadership Development Year last September.
Alpha has a very special place in my heart. Last May, a friend of mine asked if he could go along to Alpha, and so I tagged along for moral support. I’ve been a Christian since I was 14, so I didn’t think there was much point in me going to Alpha - I couldn’t have been more wrong.
It was so amazing to see my friend have questions, get some answers and grow in their faith. I couldn’t believe when towards the end of the course, they became a Christian - it was the most amazing privilege to be involved!
What I also wasn’t anticipating, was how much I would grow in my faith each week, listening to the talks and taking part in the discussions. It was refreshing to be able to ask questions that I had always taken for granted and assumed I knew. Now when someone asks me questions about faith I can confidently say: GO TO ALPHA- it won't answer all your questions, but it gives you the opportunity to explore.
The Alpha Course is an opportunity to explore questions of faith and the meaning of life with: no pressure, no follow-up, no charge. Alpha has been run in 169 countries with 24 million people having attended.
At Harbour we run an Alpha course every term on a Wednesday morning and evening. Every week we meet, have dinner together (with some yummy mocktails), and have a short talk based on a question about faith and life. We then have an opportunity to discuss our thoughts and opinions. Just a few of the topics we look at are:
Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus die?
What about Evil?
How can I have faith?
Does God heal today?
We love running Alpha because we believe it’s the best tool to help those exploring the Christian faith. It doesn't matter whether you are a christian or not, Alpha is the place to be on a Wednesday night.
We've seen so many lives transformed through Alpha, we have seen people come to faith, find community and friendships, and have questions answered. Our vision is to see this happening all over Portsmouth.
Our next Alpha course begins at the end of April, for more info, check out our website:
